The Government of Kosovo has adopted the proposal for commencement of construction of 700m EUR worth of highway between Vrbnica and Merdare.
- The phase of administrative procedures is finally ending and the phase of the highway construction is about to start. We all should be proud of that. All administrative and other procedures are finished and full transparency of the process is ensured - said Fatmir Ljimaj, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications in the Government of Kosovo.
The Administrative Interministerial Board has suggested the Government of Kosovo adopt the decision on acceptance of the contract that anticipates that the construction be finished in 36 months. The works start in Vrbnica and end in Merdare, and the road is about 120 km long.
Ljimaj announced that, according to the project, the width of the highway was 28 meters, that the toll would be charged for the use of the road, that about 6,000 workers would be engaged in its construction, 4,000 of whom would be domestic workers.
The Interministerial Task Force previously selected American-Turkish consortium Bechtel-Enka as the contractor for construction of the highway.
