Post-trauma rehabilitation centre

The Post-Trauma Rehabilitation Centre (PTRC) is for the victims of the catastrophic earthquake in the northern part of Armenia. It was built according to the high world standards, not only as the type building, but also as a special programme of rehabilitation applied for this kind of handicapped (immobile) patients.

§ The buiding is fitted with first class medical equipment and has 106 beds, swimming pools, a sports hall, workshops for patients, pharmacy and various shops. On two sides of the building the access ramps for patients in wheel-chairs are built.

§ PTRC has the total area of 13,000 m2 with the cellar, groundfloor and two floors. The largest span is 15 m (sports hall).

The structure of the building is in reinforced concrete skeleton.

The supporting buildings are: a boiler plant with chimney, station and sports terrains.

§ The International Red Cross and Red Crescent from Geneva has for the first time in its history financed the construction of one rehabilitation centre. This project provides expertise in running of the Centce and training of medical staff in Yerevan. In the international tender, among six world known companies for construction and supply of medical equipment, this project was awarded to Genex Engineering (execution of civil engineering works and supply of building material). In spite of all the problems as the result of disintegration of Serbia and USSR, when Yerevan was without water, electricity, heating, communications, and the complete delivery of material and equipment done by cargo, planes during the last months, the building was completed and commissioned in only 22 months.
